A client was contacted recently offering by a Government representative offering an opportunity to invest in public housing with low risk and very attractive returns.
Fortunately, he contacted us to seek our view before agreeing to a meeting or providing any personal information. We were concerned that it sounded dodgy, so we checked with the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS).
We found that it was a scam.
Individuals are being approached by people claiming to be representatives of the Government with regard to investing in a property under the NRAS Scheme.
The Government confirmed that is does not authorise or register individuals or organisations to speak to members of the public about NRAS investment. Nor does it:
- Contact members of the public promoting NRAS
- Seek to make appointments with people at their home, or
- Contact members of the public asking for personal information, such as banking details.
If you are approached, do not give out any personal or financial information.
